Overview
Coolify is an open-source, self-hostable alternative to Vercel, Heroku and Netlify. It manages deployments, databases and services on Linux servers connected over SSH, while keeping your configurations on your own infrastructure.

- Protect dashboard access with two-factor authentication and single sign-on.
Why it helps in Pakistan
- Keep control of your servers, data and deployment configurations.
- Reduce repetitive deployment work with Git-push automation.
- Review changes in pull-request previews before production deployment.
- Manage several client projects and servers from one dashboard.

- Keep running resources manageable even if you stop using Coolify.
Pakistan use cases
- 01
A Lahore web agency can deploy client websites with custom domains and automatic HTTPS.
- 02
A Karachi software team can run staging and production apps with separate environments and team permissions.
- 03
An Islamabad startup can deploy its application and database on its own VPS and configure database backups.
- 04
A Pakistani freelance developer can preview client changes through pull-request deployments before release.
Requirements
- Hardware
- Minimum: 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and 10 GB free disk space.Supported architecture: amd64 or arm64.Allow additional CPU, memory and storage for applications, builds, Docker images, volumes and backups.A fresh server with SSH access is recommended.
- Operating system
- Linux only; non-Linux hosts may use a Linux virtual machine.Supported distributions include Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, Red Hat, AlmaLinux, Rocky, TencentOS, Asahi, SLES, SUSE, openSUSE, Arch Linux and Alpine Linux.Use Ubuntu LTS for automated installation; non-LTS releases may require manual installation.Raspberry Pi requires 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS and ARM64.
- Skills
- SSH access and basic Linux server administration.Firewall configuration and server resource planning.Managing installation secrets and backups.Manual installation requires configuring networking, volumes and secrets.
- Accounts needed
- Server access through root or a sudo-capable user; automated installation requires root access.Create a Coolify admin account immediately after installation. For other account prerequisites: Check the official docs.
Setup guide
Commands are copied from the project's README and official docs.
- 1
Prepare a supported server
Use a fresh Linux server where possible, with at least 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and 10 GB free disk space. Confirm SSH access and required firewall ports using the installation guide. - 2
Check Docker and OS compatibility
If Docker was installed through snap, remove it and install Docker Engine through the official Docker method, or let the installer handle it. Use Ubuntu LTS for automated installation. - 3
Run the installer
Connect to your server over SSH as root and runcurl -fsSL https://cdn.coollabs.io/coolify/install.sh | bash. - 4
Open the dashboard
Wait for the Congratulations message and open the dashboard link printed in the terminal. The documented dashboard uses port 8000. - 5
Create the admin account immediately
Complete registration as soon as installation finishes. Anyone who reaches the registration page first can become the instance admin and gain root access to the server. - 6
Save installation secrets
Back up /data/coolify/source/.env securely. It contains APP_KEY and other installation secrets needed to restore Coolify from a backup.
Works with
GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Gitea
Build applications from repositories and automate deployments on Git pushes.
GitHub Actions, GitLab CI and Bitbucket Pipelines
Trigger deployments through webhooks as part of CI/CD pipelines.
Let's Encrypt
Automatically issue and renew SSL certificates for custom domains.
S3-compatible storage
Store automatic database backups in an S3-compatible solution.
Cloudflare Tunnels
Expose apps and servers without opening ports or exposing the server IP address.
Discord, Telegram and email
Receive server and deployment event notifications.
Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients
Use the MCP server to list resources, deploy, read logs, restart services and troubleshoot with existing API tokens and team permissions.
Axiom, New Relic and Highlight
Send application and server logs through log drains.
What it costs
| Software | Free to self-host under the Apache-2.0 licence. |
|---|---|
| Hosting | A small VPS meeting the 2-core, 2 GB RAM minimum usually costs about $5-20 per month; check current prices. Applications, builds, backups and additional servers can increase costs. |
| Paid cloud option | Coolify Cloud is a paid, maintained Coolify instance with high availability, email notifications and additional support. You use your own servers for workloads. Check https://coolify.io for current pricing. |
FAQ
Is Coolify free to self-host?
Yes. It is open source under Apache-2.0, and the project states that self-hosted features are not behind a paywall. Infrastructure still has its own costs.
Can I install it directly on Windows or macOS?
Coolify runs only on Linux-based operating systems. The installation guide says a Linux virtual machine may allow use on a non-Linux host.
What server size should I start with?
The stated minimum is 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and 10 GB free disk space. Add capacity for your applications, builds, images, volumes and backups.
What happens if I stop using Coolify?
Your configurations remain on your servers. Running resources continue to work and remain manageable.
How is Coolify Cloud different?
The Coolify team maintains the Coolify instance, while you use your own servers for workloads. Self-hosting means you maintain the complete platform yourself.
Troubleshooting
The automated installer has Docker or Ubuntu compatibility issues.
Remove snap-installed Docker and use Docker Engine through the official method, or let the installer install it. Use Ubuntu LTS; for non-LTS installer issues, use manual installation. See the official docs.
The dashboard cannot be reached after installation.
Check the dashboard link printed by the installer, confirm the server IP and verify that the required firewall ports are open. The documented dashboard uses port 8000; see the official docs.
The server becomes slow or unresponsive during builds.
Monitor resource usage, especially when builds and Coolify share a server. Increase CPU, memory or storage as workloads grow, or add server capacity; see the official docs.
A deployment fails and the cause is unclear.
Inspect deployment and runtime logs. For help, search the Discord support forum, then share your Coolify version, exact error, relevant logs, recent changes and attempted fixes. Remove secrets before sharing; see the official docs.
