Setup guide

Commands are copied from the project's README and official docs.

  1. 1

    Run the official production image

Run docker run -d --name bagisto -p 80:80 webkul/bagisto:latest. The image includes an installed store with sample products.
  2. 2

    Open the store and admin

Open http://localhost and http://localhost/admin/login. Sign in with admin@example.com / admin123 and change the password before others can reach the store.
  3. 3

    Configure persistent storage

Check the official docs. The installation guide points to docker/production/README.md for volume mounts; removing a container without volumes loses its data.

Not fully covered in the README. Check the official docs before running this step.

Works with

  • Next.js Commerce

Use the related project to build a headless storefront with Next.js and Bagisto.

  • Flutter mobile app

Use the related open-source mobile commerce app powered by Flutter and Laravel.

  • PayPal, Stripe, Authorize.net and PayTabs

The official site lists payment connector extensions. Check each extension's requirements and provider eligibility before choosing it.

  • LLM APIs

Integrate models such as GPT, Claude or Gemini for chatbots, product descriptions, support, search or recommendations. The README advises error handling and rate limiting.

  • External databases

Official images can use an external database through DB_HOST and DB_* settings. Database support depends on the chosen release and image.

FAQ

Is Bagisto free?

The core framework is free under the MIT licence. Related extensions, services and managed hosting have their own terms; do not assume every ecosystem solution is included in the free core.

Does installation require an npm build?

No. The installation guide says admin, storefront and installer assets are already built. Asset development has a separate build workflow.

Can I use it for a Pakistani marketplace or wholesale store?

The marketplace solution supports sellers, commissions and approvals, while the B2B solution supports company purchasing and quote negotiation. Confirm extension requirements and local payment arrangements separately.

Can I rerun the installer on an existing store?

No. bagisto:install wipes the database and runs fresh migrations. The guide directs upgrades to php artisan migrate and the Upgrade Guide instead.

Is the Docker quick start ready for public use?

It provides a working store, but you must change the default admin password and configure persistent volumes. Review deployment guidance, including the production queue worker requirement.

Troubleshooting

Images or links point to the wrong address.

Set APP_URL in .env to the exact address you open, including the port. Docker deployments using port 8080 also need a matching APP_URL.

An unattended installation finishes without creating tables.

APP_ENV=production prevents unattended confirmation of destructive migrations. Install into an empty database before setting production mode, or follow the documented production checklist.

Sail cannot initialize its database or connect to it.

Do not set DB_USERNAME=root for MySQL or MariaDB. Match DB_HOST and DB_PORT to the selected service; PostgreSQL uses pgsql and port 5432.

Docker store data disappears after removing the container.

The guide warns that data is lost without volumes. Configure the volume mounts described in docker/production/README.md before keeping store data.
